Aloha guys!
I wanted to call today, but to make Christmas more special I decided want to wait till Christmas day to call. I will keep this letter short since I will call you on Wednesday!
This week the Lord has led us to do a lot of less active work. A particular experience I want to share happened on Friday or Saturday I believe.
As we were planning our day I got the thought to visit a member that we had never met before. A few months ago we had set up several appointments with her but they all fell through. I called her and she was frazzled. She went on a rant about her life and her current situation.
We had to drive deep into the mountain to find her log cabin. The place she lives is isolated. The floors and walls are bare wood, it has no power or plumbing, She has to climb down her steps and walk down a steep hill to go and grab water.
We came over and listened to her talk about her situation. Honestly it sounded pretty rough. Me and Elder Brown tag teamed teach her, each taking turns testifying and encouraging her till she was able to cheer up a little. We were able to feel the spirit enter her home! We invited her to church before we left and we told her this trial is like pushing a stone down a hill. All it needs is a push and things will get easier.
Sunday morning she texted us at 5. She was stressed and did not think she could make it to church. She had a large ravine she had to drive through and it had been raining nonstop this week. I swear I listened to her talk for 10 minutes before I simply said: "It will all work out, everything will be okay."
She gave it a second try and made it back to church. It was a rewarding experience to see her back with the Branch Ohana, they embraced her as part of the family, as if she had never left!
Jill has a long way to go metal health wise, her isolation and primitive circumstances have made her a little frazzled. We are hoping the Branch can help her locate a new home for her that is more suitable for her older age. At the end of it all she told us the night before we came that she had prayed that God would sent the sister missionaries (Honomu used to have sisters) that next day we had the distinct feeling to pay her a visit. She will be another member we will work with to help her become fully embraced with the branch. Our less active work has been amazing and our stake president says that Honomu will explode. It is just a matter of gathering the lost sheep one by one. This is such a simple job, Invite, Love, Friendship, be persistent, repeat.
Love you guys talk to you Wednesday!
